Direct logs is part of K.Shepherd and Son tree surgeons and forestry contractors, forrmally H J Shepherd Forestry.
The company was started by Jack Shepherd in the 1950s as a forestry company. As the company took shape later his youngest son Kevin became part of the company in 1977 after training as a tree surgeon at Merrist Wood College when the tree surgery side of the business was started. As the business grew, major contracts were sourced which all added to the wood coming in to our yard for the firewood side of the business.
In the late 1990s Kevin took over the reins on his father’s retirement. The company has pushed on significantly purchasing new premises at Compton, where a state of the art log processing unit was built and drying barns converted to season logs.
In 2007 Kevin’s son Paul joined the company as a trainee tree surgeon. He is now an established tree surgeon in his own right and carries out all the tree surgery for the company.
All our three sides of the company are linked to help each other all the surgery wood is used in firewood also all the small wood from felled quality timber is used to provide seasoned hardwood for Direct logs.
Direct Logs has now been selling logs to retail and domestic customers for 60 years.
